Ecto-1 gets Sony Xplod Upgrade for Ghostbusters 25th Anniversary

Friday, October 31st, 2008

The ectomobile now features Sony’s slim series subwoofers, a DVD A/V system, iPod adapter, and Sony marine amps (to cope with all that ectoplasm, presumably) and some hefty speakers. It also has a Sony MP3 player, 10-disc CD changer and NV-U83T navigation system installed.

From a very interesting blog post written by Mark Harris for TechRadar UK. Looks like the car is going to SEMA this year. 2009 is going to be a great year to be a ghosthead.

Ecto-1 Goes on Tour (UPDATE: Including San Diego Comic Con)

Friday, June 20th, 2008

As part of the promotion of Ghostbusters: The Video Game, the Ecto-1 will take a tour around the United States (dates below).  Chris from Proton Charging noticed the schedule does not include the San Diego Comic Con (thanks to AJ from GB Fans for the revised schedule below) while I’m wondering why we aren’t seeing a Chicago date.

Fan-Restored Ectomobile Graces Knoxville News Sentinal

Ghosthead Paul Francis, who purchased and restored the 1959 Miller Meteor Ghostbusters Ectomobile from Universal Studios in February of 2007, was recently included in an article by the Knoxville News Sentinal about AdventureCon in the Knoxville Convention Center.

Who ya gonna call? Ecto-Flugtag!

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Nearly 100,000 people gathered during the 2nd Annual Red Bull Flugtag London’s Hyde Park to watch contestants glide interesting contraptions over cold water.  One of the flying machines entered into the contest was an Ecto-1.

Read more about the event here.  Kudos to Proton Charging for finding photos of the Ecto-Flugtag.

International Promo Ecto

Ecto-1 Ecto-1 Rear Shot

As the images from the London Movie Comic & Media Expo start rolling in from Flickr, I couldn’t help but notice the fact that the Ecto-1 on display is not the same as the newly restored original vehicle AJ Quick from GB Fans took photos of earlier this year.

The car looks to be a 1959 Cadillac outfitted from either S&S or Eureka. The original car used in the film was a 1959 Cadillac Combination (Hearse / Ambulance) outfitted by Miller Meteor. As a proud owner of a 1959 Miller Meteor, I can respect Sony’s wishes not to haul the original car around the world, and I think it is great they took the time to build out a great promo car.

The cost to ship my car from Anchorage Alaska to Chicago was a small fortune, I couldn’t imagine shipping it over seas, yikes!

UPDATE: Ghosthead Kingpin has the scoop on the car. It can be found here.

RC Kenner Ecto-1 With Remote Control!

Goosebuster from GB Fans wanted to build an RC Ecto-1 for ages, so he finally went and did it!  Check out the video below.

We have to get these two together, I think that would be extraordinarily delicious!
