Ghostbusters.net member Jason Lundy has produced something that ghostheads have been dreaming about for over a decade.  A 12″ Ghostbusters action figure based on the likeness of the characters from the original film.  Starting off with Ray Stantz, Jason has built the ultimate 12″ Ghostbusters figure.  Just look at it, this fan-crafted marvel glows in the dark!

As we have pondered in the past,  Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis, and Hudson are on board together for the first time since 1989, and Sony Pictures is heavily investing in the revival of the franchise through several products coming out later this year / early next.  It is certainly a possibility that we could see the real thing at some point.

So we’re back about ‘89 or ‘90. The decade isn’t important so much as picking up with these characters before they were watered down in so many different incarnations between now and then. The Ghostbusters are flying high in the aftermath of defeating Gozer and Vigo. Enough so that the gang has caught the attention–and the ire–of a quartet of Ghosts that realize the Ghostbusters are getting a little too big for their britches, that the gang could become a threat to these particular ghosts way of un-life. And these ghosts look at guys like Gozer and Vigo as pansy ballerinas, and they decide to get rid of the Ghostbusters before the Ghostbusters can get rid of them.

After watching those new Terminal Reality tech demos for Ghostbusters: The Video Game demos, and seeing all the new details on the equipment, I am reminded of how cool a new line Ghostbusters toys would be.  Other than the Real Ghostbusters (and to a lesser degree, Extreme Ghosbusters), the movie franchise has been seriously lacking in the toy department.  Sure, there were those Ghostbusters action figures a few years back.  But the line only consisted of the spooks, when in reality what we all REALLY want are the boys and their toys.

It isn’t due to lack of demand that we have no Ghostbusters toys currently displayed on our shelves or a top our computers.  Its a known fact that this is due to celebrity likeness and the lack there of.

It has been many a year and people have stopped expecting any Ghostbusters movie figures.  But then a new Ghostbusters game is announced.  And not just that!  This game has all the approved likeness of each actor!…including their voices!   Could this be true?  Have all actors dropped the iron curtain and their faces can now be on products?  Could this mean….*GASP*….there is the possibility of a toy company making action figures based on the new video game?!  Ultra detailed, super poseable renditions of our favorite characters with the classic pack, the revamped game pack, traps, PKE’s, goggles, THE WORKS!  Each figure could be packed with a spook from the game.  Each could have a piece of a charred, pissed off Stay Puft that you can assemble when you collect all the characters.  And if the Gods were smiling upon us, each figure could have a voice chip in it.

Can you imagine the glory of such figures?

Who knows.  Stranger things have happened.

AnimeonDVD has full coverage of the TOKYOPOP Anime Expo Industry Panel, which included mention of Ghostbusters manga and a confirmed release slated for this October.

Ghostbusters, scheduled for an October release, is to coincide with the video game. Set in the timeframe of the video game, it is five separate stories by several artists including Yamashita, Johnson, Delk, Lorenzo, Shelfer, Watson, and Steinbach. Delk (AKA Chrissy Delk) was in TOKYOPOP’s Rising Stars of Manga.

In preparation for the 25th anniversary of Ghostbusters, a 50 gigabyte Blu-ray disc with Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II will be available in high definition, along with interactive games, episodes of the Real Ghostbusters, and more.

It seems as if everything discussed (and more) will be released on one Blu-ray 50 GB disc. Both movies, all the extras and bonus content on one disc.  That said, what do you think the packaging should look like? 

Classic black box?  Green slime?  Something new?
