Spook Central Celebrates The Real Ghostbusters Complete Collection DVD

Monday, November 10th, 2008

Paul Rudoff, one of the original ghostheads and creator of Spook Central, published an interesting sneak-peak of The Real Ghostbusters Pilot, which is what I believe to be the most anticipated feature of The Real Ghostbusters Complete Collection on DVD from Time-Life.

If that isn’t enough to get you excited about the DVD set, Paul has also been counting down his 31 favorite Real Ghostbusters episodes.  As a very big fan of The Real Ghostbusters, I want to thank Paul for doing a magnificent job with this blog series.

* Peter Venkman

* Egon Spengler

* Winston Zeddemore

* Ray Stantz

* Louis Tully (w/ headgear)

I should clarify that these are fan-made concepts.  That said, Ghostbusters-loving vinyl toy fans take heed, Ghostbusters kubrick figures will be available sometime next year.

Ghostbusters: The Other Side Comic Signing Recap

Friday, October 17th, 2008

A big thanks to Jimmy Hayes and the wonderful staff at Graham Crackers Comics of Wheaton for a wonderful event.  You can view photos and read a recap of the event posted on the Ghostbusters Message Board by Ectoman57.  It was a pleasure meeting all of the ghostheads that made it out.

For those of you without the new Ghostbusters comics, Graham Crackers has Ghostbusters: The Other Side #1 (as well as the GCC exclusive cover) available for purchase in addition to the newly released TOKYOPOP Ghostbusters manga and Cereal Geek #4.

Top top it all off, Ghostbusters: The Other Side artist Tom Nguyen was kind enough to draw Dr. Peter Venkman on the spot especially for Ghostbusters.net.  I was also fortunate to do an interview with Tom, which will be published soon.

My Ecto-10… Speed

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Raleigh BadgeI reached a new level a geekdom. Luckily for me, it’s a healthy dose (no pun intended, of course).

Late in the summer, I purchased a vintage Raleigh 10 speed bicycle off of Craigslist. This was the end of a long search. You see, I am 6′ 7″ and an XL bike frame isn’t easy to find… let alone a used one! And to find one that is in good shape and not ugly as sin is nearly impossible! Yet fate dealt me a good hand and I found a bike that was the right size, in great condition and a fun color scheme of white, red and chrome.

It’s that color palette that first caught my attention. It reminded me of the Ecto-1. After a little research, I also discovered that the bike was made in 1984, the same year Ghostbusters was released. With that in mind, I had no choice but to flush out the Ghostbusters theme and turn this old 10 speed into an Ecto-10 Speed.

I purchased a pair of vintage WW2 khaki bicycle saddle bags off of ebay for cheap, as well as a Ghosbusters logo and Venkman name tag patch to sew on the bags. I mounted the saddle bags to a chrome rear wheel rack (to match the chrome fork in front) with a glossy red wood shelf down the center that I added (to add extra support for the saddle bags and continue the color scheme).

With some khaki handlebar tape, and a hand sewn top tube pad to bridge the color gap between the front and back of the bike, I now have an Ecto-10 Speed.

If you combine Ghostbusters and Bicycling, the official colors would be red, white and green!

Whether I riding in the city streets, or on bike trails, I am always representing the Ghostbusters community on two wheels.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game Lanyards Available at PAX

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Ghostbusters: The Video Game may be without a publisher at the moment, but there should be little doubt the game will be arriving sometime in 2009 to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the original Ghostbusters film.  Despite the recent news regarding GameStop’s blanket pre-order refund / exchange policy, there is new hope for crestfallen fans, this time in the form of a lanyard.

That’s right folks, the official lanyard of the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) is a glow-in-the-dark lanyard that reads “Ghostbusters: The Video Game”. Nothing further was printed on the lanyard, but we will have more as it develops.

Open The Merch Flood Gates, Baby!

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

After watching those new Terminal Reality tech demos for Ghostbusters: The Video Game demos, and seeing all the new details on the equipment, I am reminded of how cool a new line Ghostbusters toys would be.  Other than the Real Ghostbusters (and to a lesser degree, Extreme Ghosbusters), the movie franchise has been seriously lacking in the toy department.  Sure, there were those Ghostbusters action figures a few years back.  But the line only consisted of the spooks, when in reality what we all REALLY want are the boys and their toys.

It isn’t due to lack of demand that we have no Ghostbusters toys currently displayed on our shelves or a top our computers.  Its a known fact that this is due to celebrity likeness and the lack there of.

It has been many a year and people have stopped expecting any Ghostbusters movie figures.  But then a new Ghostbusters game is announced.  And not just that!  This game has all the approved likeness of each actor!…including their voices!   Could this be true?  Have all actors dropped the iron curtain and their faces can now be on products?  Could this mean….*GASP*….there is the possibility of a toy company making action figures based on the new video game?!  Ultra detailed, super poseable renditions of our favorite characters with the classic pack, the revamped game pack, traps, PKE’s, goggles, THE WORKS!  Each figure could be packed with a spook from the game.  Each could have a piece of a charred, pissed off Stay Puft that you can assemble when you collect all the characters.  And if the Gods were smiling upon us, each figure could have a voice chip in it.

Can you imagine the glory of such figures?

Who knows.  Stranger things have happened.
